Personal safety is a very important and a tightly enforced aspect of racing. Most sanctioned events require drivers to wear full personal safety set that typically includes a racing suit, racing gloves, racing shoes and a car racing helmet, which unlike a motorcycle helmet will include "Hans device" attachment points. Hans device is a neck guard bracket that provides stiff neck bracing in-case of a multiple roll-over incident. The main reason full race suit is required is due to its fire resistant and fire protective qualities that are measured, graded and certified for each article of personal safety protection. Most officially sanctioned events will have mandatory race driver personal safety equipment inspections, and will disqualify any driver who's personal safety gear does not meet the stringent certification standards that are adopted by each event-specific sanctioning body.
